'It was a senseless act' | Shooting victim's family hoping reward will lead to murder arrest

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest for the death of 42-year-old Domingo Castaneda.

SAN ANTONIO — A family is hoping nearly a month after their loved one died after being shot in the head, they find justice.

A Crime Stoppers reward is now being offered for information that could lead to an arrest from a murder on October 18.

Police said 42-year-old Domingo Castaneda was outside an apartment on the 100 block of De Chantle when someone driving a dark-colored sedan shot him.

Castaneda was rushed to the hospital that night but was declared brain dead on October 21.

The victim’s sister, Leslie Saucedo said she is still trying to come to terms with the fact her brother was killed.

“It was a terrible way to go, it’d be different if it was a natural cause,” Saucedo said.

She said he was a caring brother who would do anything to help those around him.

“He was trying to get himself on the right path and then this happens,” Saucedo said.

She said his death has been heartbreaking for the entire family. On the day of the funeral, another sister, who is diagnosed with ALS was hospitalized.

“She’s been living with ALS for 15 years, so the emotional stress was just too much,” Saucedo said.

Saucedo added it has also taken a toll on Castaneda’s only son, who enlisted in the military just weeks before his dad was killed.

“It was a senseless act, for what?" she said.

Saucedo is hoping the $5,000 reward being offered by Crime Stoppers will help lead to an arrest.

“It’s terrible, they’re out there, they’re a danger,” Saucedo said.

She added her brother was an organ donor and will help save four lives.
