SAPD: Man shoots uncle aboard VIA bus on San Antonio's west side

Police responded to the corner of Culebra Road and North General McMullen.

SAN ANTONIO — A man shot his uncle on board a VIA bus on the city's west side Monday evening, San Antono Police say.

San Antonio Police responded to the scene near the intersection of Culebra Road and North General McMullen just after 6 p.m. Monday.

They found the 41-year-old victim with gunshot wound to his stomach. Investigators said he was responsive when he was taken away in the ambulance but then rushed into surgery. His condition as of Monday night is unknown.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Fermin Heredia. He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was also arrested on a previous charge of felony possession of a firearm.

An SAPD spokesman said several people were on the bus when the shooting happened.

One woman who spoke with KENS 5 said she witnessed the two men arguing on the bus before she got off at her stop and then heard a gunshot.

"Right when I was getting to the Bill Miller’s parking lot, I heard a pop like something go off and I was just like oh my god and I just ran home," Belinda Martinez said.

The alleged shooter was tracked down by police several blocks away from the incident off Texas Avenue.

Jacob Martin Rodriguez said he ran into his backyard.

“He was drenched, he didn’t look like he wanted to fight me in any way but I was ready in the fighting position," Martin Rodriguez said.

He added, he had two kids inside the home so he was scared at first. He said the suspect admitted he was running from police. Shortly after, an undercover officer shows up followed by several other units.
