In the line of fire | State leader Sid Miller was about 30 feet away from Trump when shots were fired

"A lady had gotten hit right behind me and I think, I don't know for sure but she may have been the one that passed away," Sid Miller said.

SAN ANTONIO — Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller says he was about 30 feet from former President Donald Trump when the shooting started.

"I hear a crack. I think it's a balloon popping because it's not very loud.  Then I hear a second one, and I think it's firecrackers, then the third one I figured out what it was," said Miller.

Miller had a front row seat to the chaos that unfolded Saturday evening at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania.

"Then the 4th shot hit him in the ear, or behind the ear," said Miller.

Miller says after Trump went down secret service jumped on the stage to protect the former president, covering him with their own bodies, then Miller says he heard three more shots.

"Then I looked behind me, a lady had gotten hit right behind me, and I think I don't know for sure, but she may have been the one that passed away.  She had a lot of blood on her front shirt," said Miller.

Miller was at the rally as part of the Gas and Groceries Truth Tour, before heading to the Republican National Convention on Monday.

Texas Republican Leader Wes Martinez was suppose to be at Saturday's rally.

"We're shocked like everybody else. Clearly, an attack on any person that's the president is an attack on all of us. The entire country should be unified behind protecting those things from happening," said Martinez.

Martinez says a personal matter kept him from attending Saturday's rally, but he's thankful he was not in the line of fire.

"You know people like Sid Miller and myself you know, we run to things like that, so I just know that we would have been trying to help, if we were in the middle of it," said Martinez.

Martinez says Republicans at the rally tell him additional military support has been called in to secure the scene, with controlled access.  Communications are limited as authorities try and piece together what happened.

"We're a very resilient nation, but nobody wants anybody to be have an assassination attempt, or anything like that. You know, it's not a Republican or Democrat issue.  I think that's what we're going to see is we're going to see the coalition of people in the United States requiring and demanding that we put people over politics, because they're afraid they could be next," said Martinez

Both Miller and Martinez commend law enforcement for their quick action in controlling the situation.
