Jonathan Campos, a suspect in the murder of 7-year-old Iris Rodriguez, committed suicide at the Bexar County Jail according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
Campos was arrested on June 14 and police had since identified him and fellow suspect Frank Gomez as the shooters in the incident that killed Rodriguez.
In an interview with KENS 5 reporter Anusha Roy, though, Campos maintained his innocence.
"I know I'm innocent,” Campos said. "I didn't see it. I didn't see nothing."
Campos was apologetic, but not to Rodriguez or her family. He was apologetic to his own family as they watched him get arrested and taken to jail.
"I want to tell my family and daughter I'm sorry," said Campos, who chose to talk as a father, finding it painful to discuss his 4-year-old girl and another baby on the way. "I love you and I'm sorry for leaving you in this dirty world alone.”
