SAPD needs help identifying suspect who allegedly stole several pieces of James Avery jewelry

According to SAPD, over $5,000 worth of jewelry has been stolen by the suspect.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department is asking the public to help identify a man who authorities say has stolen numerous pieces of jewelry from multiple James Avery stores.

Police said that in recent months the suspect – a thin-framed, bearded man – has walked into different locations and stolen several pieces of jewelry from display cases before fleeing in a white vehicle.  More than $5,000 worth of jewelry has been stolen by the suspect, police said.

Detectives say the man was caught on camera on Feb. 24 stealing a necklace and bracelet from the store at 2310 Southwest Military; it happened around 4 p.m. on a busy Saturday afternoon. A police report detailing the incident states the man was able to fish gold jewelry from a locked display case using a wire tool.

The report indicates the suspect had been in the store on previous occasions stealing in the same manner.

The story is largely the same for the store at 3143 SE Military Drive, where police say the man was on the evening of May 3 where he was seen via surveillance footage taking 14 chains and charms from a display case.

Just two weeks later, on May 18, the suspect moved to the northwest side of town, making an appearance at 11745 Interstate 10 West in the Huebner Oaks shopping area.

Police said that, here, just after 5 p.m., the same man walked in and again used a wire tool to fish a 14-karat, gold cherish-amethyst birthstone necklace from a display case.

In addition to images of the suspect, police are sharing an image of the white sedan the man used to make his getaway.

Police said anyone with information on the identity of the suspect may call the SAPD Property Crimes Task Force at (210) 207-8326.
