SCHERTZ, Texas — Clemens High School was temporarily under a "hold in place" after school officials said a handgun, THC and alcohol was found in a vehicle in the school's parking lot.
Around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, the Schertz Police Department responded to reports that a student had brought a gun onto campus.
While patrolling the school parking lot, the School Resource Officer (SRO) found five individuals sitting in a parked car. School administration was made aware of the situation and conducted a search of the vehicle.
The search revealed a handgun, THC and alcohol in the car. The student in possession of the car was identified as 17-year-old Austin Ackers.
Ackers admitted that the gun, THC and alcohol were all his. Police arrested and took him to the Guadalupe County Detention Center in Seguin.
He is facing charges of minor in possession of alcohol, possession of THC and unlawful carrying a weapon prohibited place, enhanced weapon free zone as this took place on school grounds.
The other four students were released to school administrators and will not be facing any charges.
Just last week, more than a dozen bullets were found at San Antonio-area schools and officials say this is a scary trend that needs to come to an end.
“This is an example of making bad choices and engaging in risky behavior that can have lifelong negative consequences," said Police Chief Jim Lowery. "This has to stop, and our children must be able to attend school without fear of someone having a weapon or making a threat."
