Teenager identified after he was shot, killed while walking dog

SAPD has not provided any information regarding a suspect, but they said they are looking for a white or grey four-door vehicle.

SAN ANTONIO — A teenage boy was shot and killed while walking his dog on the south side Sunday evening, according to San Antonio police.

Police responded to a shooting in the area of Pleasanton Road. They found a boy shot in the street near the intersection of Gerald and Tupper and rushed him to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. 

The Medical Examiner has identified the teenager as 14-year-old Angel Jerry Yanez. He was a student with the Harlandale Independent School District.

SAPD has not provided any information regarding a suspect, but they said they are looking for a white or grey four-door vehicle.

A memorial was set up in his honor Monday morning. Harlandale Independent School District released a statement Monday afternoon, stating:

Dear Harlandale ISD Family,

It is with tremendous sadness that I inform you of the death of a Harlandale ISD student. Angel Jerry Yanez was killed last night according to police near Harlandale High School. Our deepest condolences are with his family and friends. 

The loss of a student is extremely difficult for us as a district as we care for these children as if they were our own. 

Special counseling services have been made available to students and staff during this time of loss. If you know of a student or staff that needs additional counseling support please do not hesitate to contact the Harlandale Care Center at 210-989-5247 or the corresponding campus counselor or social worker.

We will not be commenting any further on Angel’s death out of respect for privacy to his family. 

We ask that you keep his friends and family in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this tragic loss.
