BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Alamo Ranch neighbors thought it was fireworks lighting up their street around 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Instead, it was gunfire.
Surveillance video posted Thursday by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) shows three men firing at least 40 gunshots at a home in the 12100 block of Karnes Way. It happened at 4:13 a.m. Wednesday, startling neighbors in the Riverstone at Alamo Ranch subdivision.
Investigators say this shooting was no random act. Neighbors believe this crime was meant to send a message and fear the criminals will return to "finish the job".
BCSO investigators say only adults were home when the shooting happened. No one was hurt.
Investigators say this home was targeted in a "deliberate and reckless attempt" to hurt or kill someone inside that house. Neighbors tell KENS 5 the people who live in that home moved in earlier this year.
Off-camera, at least two residents off Karnes Way said this shooting looked eerily familiar.
Exactly three weeks before, a 4-year-old was killed in a similar crime off Windsor Hollow. Those suspects have not been arrested.
Following the shooting off Karnes Way, the home is riddled with bullet holes. It's not clear how many people were inside at the time.
Deputies say the suspects drove away in this small SUV, possibly a white or light-colored Hyundai Tuscon.
Investigators believe the suspects are all men in their late teens to early 20's.
"I thought it was fireworks," said one neighbor who lives down the street. "This is a little too close for comfort."
She just moved in Friday. Seconds after the shooting, she says she jolted out of bed to check on the children in the home.
"Look around, make sure everybody was ok," she recalled.
Their family's priority now is installing security cameras.
"It's a very safe neighborhood. We've been in the area since 2008," said a mother and daughter who clean homes primarily in Alamo Ranch.
They told KENS 5 they weren't sure if they should go back. They had an appointment Thursday on the same block as the shooting.
"Hearing about that incident, it is worrisome, but we're here to do a job," they said. "I told [my daughter] we have to take a chance because we have to do business."
Late last year, as part of BCSO's ongoing crime reduction efforts, deputies set up a mobile command unit at the HEB off Alamo Ranch Parkway. Sheriff Javier Salazar also hosted a crime and safety prevention presentation focusing on their efforts on the far west side.
