BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Two Bexar County constables deputies were injured and one remains hospitalized after they were attacked by a man while they were serving him a court-ordered writ of petition warrant to vacate his property.
Around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies showed up to an apartment complex located in the 4400 block of Gardendale Road to try and evict the tenant. Upon arrival, the unidentified 58-year-old suspect allegedly refused to leave the apartment and barricaded himself inside, according to the officials with the Bexar County constables.
When deputies had to force their way in, the suspect reportedly attacked them with a "sharp" weapon.
As of now, the constables office hasn't specified the weapon the suspect used during the attack but said it wasn't a firearm. Both deputies were injured during the scuffle, but they were able to arrest the suspect and get him into custody.
Authorities said the deputies are expected to be OK, but medical personnel advised that the officers should be checked out with "extreme caution," as one deputy suffered lacerations to his head. Both were taken to a hospital for evaluation, where one remains in stable condition as of Wednesday evening.
The suspect has been identified as Phillip Weems, 58.
Weems is said to be facing a charge of aggravated assault on an officer with a deadly weapon, along with any other charges that might come about during the investigation.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is taking over the investigation.
