SAN ANTONIO — Police say two family members are now safe after a scary situation in a north-side neighborhood.

Officers were called to the 17000 block of Summer Creek Drive at about 3 a.m. for a possible assault in progress.

When they arrived, an officer made contact with a suspect through the locked front door. The officer concluded that the suspect was "in mental duress and was armed with two knives."

Police say the suspect's mother and brother were also both inside the home, locked inside their respective rooms.

Eventually, the victims were able to exit the house safely. Once they were out, officers disengaged from the house and allowed the suspect to remain in the home.

The suspect will be charged with assault on the elderly and terroristic threat.
