SAN ANTONIO — An Uber rider allegedly exposed himself to a female driver Wednesday morning, authorities say.
San Antonio Police say an Uber driver called the police after she said a rider exposed himself to her during a car ride.
Police say a woman picked up a man near Northwest Loop 410 and Culebra Road while working for Uber. While driving the man to his destination, the man began masturbating in the back passenger seat.
That Uber driver spoke with KENS 5 Thursday and detailed every moment of what happened when she picked the man up. For her protection she will remain anonymous.
The driver said the man she picked up from a restaurant near loop 410 seemed nice at first.
"He messaged me before I got there - when we first started driving we were just talking," said the driver.
Just minutes into the drive she started noticing movements she said were concerning. The driver also detailed things the rider was saying to her like I'm going to give you a big tip.
"He asked me what was the biggest tip I've ever gotten," said the driver.
The driver said she was afraid to bring attention to the man and whatever he was doing in the back passenger seat. If she turned around mid-drive she thought he would catch her and didn't know how she would defend herself.
So the Uber driver escaped into the Misty Oaks neighborhood off Grissom Road. That's where she said she finally stopped, looked back and saw that he was naked and touching himself.
"He started putting his clothes back on…saying don't call the police," said the driver.
Screaming at the man to leave her car the Uber driver jumped out, waved her hands and tried to get help. She said a woman stopped to help her and called police.
The Uber driver said she caught the man on camera as he was leaving her car into the neighborhood. She describes him as an African American man with a scorpion tattoo, wearing a camo shirt.
KENS 5 reached out to Uber for comment on this incident. They provided this statement:
“This behavior has no place in our society or on the Uber platform. We take reports of this nature very seriously and banned the rider as soon as we were made aware. We have been in touch with the driver, and have a dedicated team standing ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation.” - Uber spokesperson.
SAPD has yet to find the suspect.
The Uber driver said she just wants the suspect to be found. Ever since this happened she said she doesn't trust anyone who comes into her car.
"I can't just quit today because I have bills to pay…but I am looking into a better job now," said the driver.
According to a Facebook post written by the sister of the female driver, the man threatened to harm the woman if she pulled the car over. The woman hopped out of the car near Misty Way Street and Airflight Street while at a red light and screamed for help.
This is an active investigation, authorities say.
No other information was provided.
