SAN ANTONIO — Two bodies have been found in less than a week at the Victoria Plaza Apartment complex, according to San Antonio police who are now investigating.
On Tuesday, officers were called to the complex, located in the 400 block of Barrera, for a welfare check. When they entered the unit, authorities say, officers found a man unresponsive inside. That man, 59-year-old Nick Martinez, was pronounced dead from sharp force injury. Officials are investigating his death as a homicide after saying they found evidence of potential foul play.
Then, on Friday, another body was found at the same apartment complex in a different unit. Officers were again called to Victoria Plaza after authorities say someone called about a foul smell.
A sergeant who spoke with KENS 5 said police could "smell the stench of death" as they walked up to the door. Family at the scene identified the deceased as 52-year-old Donnell Sterling.
"My brother didn't deserve that, no one's life should be taken by someone else," said Sterling's brother, Bridget Sterling. "My brother was a good person."
Tuesday, Sterling's death was confirmed by the Medical Examiner and his cause of death was ruled as a gunshot wound to the head. The case is also being investigated as a homicide, officials said.
KENS 5 asked SAPD if there is a connection between the two deaths and the department responded that it is an ongoing investigation.
