85-year-old man killed in crash in Waller, daughter charged with intoxication manslaughter: HCSO

The sheriff said the woman was attempting to make an unsafe left turn, causing the crash.

WALLER, Texas — A woman has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after a deadly crash in Waller, Texas, on Friday night, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

This happened on Hempstead Road between Kermier Road and Kickapoo Road. The sheriff first posted about the crash at 11:08 p.m.

Gonzalez identified the driver as 51-year-old Shelley Buttram. He said she tried to make an unsafe left turn causing an approaching car to crash into her. The passenger of her car, her father, died on the way to the hospital, according to the sheriff. It's unclear if there were any other injuries.

Deputies suspected Buttram was intoxicated and placed her under arrest at the crash scene. Investigators said she was driving without her headlights on. She was later charged with intoxication manslaughter and her bond was set at $50,000.
