CONVERSE, Texas — A woman has been arrested and accused of criminally negligent homicide after her 96-year-old grandmother was found dead with strange injuries in a filthy apartment, an arrest warrant says.
The warrant states that as Heather Ann Prescott was served an eviction notice at her apartment in Converse on October 26, she told constables that her grandmother, Carolyn Prescott, had been found dead in her bed a few hours earlier. She said she didn't contact police because she knew constables would be there later in the day.
Authorities said the apartment was filthy with mold, rotting food, piles of garbage and insects. Prescott was charged with a count of child endangerment for each of her four children, who were taken from the apartment and placed into Child Protective Services custody.
Investigators found that Carolyn Prescott had broken both of her legs about three or four days prior to her death. They believed that the injuries would have caused great pain and contributed to her death.
The doctor who performed the autopsy said the tibia and fibula were broken on both legs, and he had never seen this type of injury before.
Investigators said there were signs of neglect, and no sign that she had been treated for the injuries.
Investigators said Heather Prescott admitted that her grandmother fell about a week and a half or two weeks before her death.
"Prescott said she asked her grandmother if she was OK and she told her she was fine. Prescott said she did not think her grandmother needed medical attention," the affidavit states.
