'There will never be justice' | Woman arrested four months after gruesome dog attack left man without legs

76-year-old Max De Los Santos had to have his legs amputated, loved ones say.

SAN ANTONIO — Police arrested a woman nearly four months after her dogs allegedly attacked a 76-year-old man.

Last week, a grand jury indicted Danielle Henderson, 32, on a felony charge of dangerous dog attack causing serious bodily injury.

“I am so grateful for not only the attorneys, the professional people, our community members with strong conscience,” said Beatrice De Los Santos.

Beatrice’s husband, Max, was viciously mauled by two Staffordshire Terriers in his own yard on Aug. 16. It happened in the 7400 block of Fieldgate Drive.

A neighbor jumped in to save Max’s life, but Beatrice says he still lost his legs.

“This is the most alert Max has been in four months,” she said. “He looked at me and said, ‘Do you understand how awkward it is to not feel your feet touching the floor?’”

Officers took Henderson into custody on Dec. 6.

“The chaos, the suffering; there will never be justice,” said Beatrice. “But at least I can feel comfort that someone on the legal side knows that it should have never happened.”

Beatrice is now fighting to make sure it never happens again.

“We have to be more responsible as community members, our leaders need to be responsible,” she said. "Dog owners who have these types of animals need to go through some kind of training and yearly reviews as well.”

Henderson was booked on a $25,000, but curt records show she has since bonded out.
