SAN ANTONIO — A woman was arrested in connection to a deadly hit-and-run accident on Saturday in Elmendorf, Bexar County Authorities say.

Kiana Lee Pena, 21, was arrested for collision involving injury after failing to stop and render aid in a fatal accident.

Bexar County Sheriff's deputies were called to 4031 New Mathis Road around 1 a.m. on October 19.

Deputies say two women were attempting to cross the street when they were struck by a vehicle who failed to stop and render aid.

According to the arrest affidavit, one of the women was pulled out of the roadway by her husband and was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner identified her as 62-year-old Angele Southwell.

The second woman was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the arrest affidavit, Southwell's son provided authorities with information about the crash and the suspect.

Upon further investigation, the suspect was identified as Pena who was working as an Uber Eats driver at the time of the crash.

Pena told authorities she tried to avoid something in the roadway when she hit the women, but believed it to be a mailbox and left the area shortly after noticing her mirror was missing.
