A fatal crash shut down Interstate 35 in both directions at Luckey Road on Friday morning.
The accident happened around 5:45 a.m.
Investigators said a driver stopped a car on the road for some unknown reason when the driver of a pickup slammed into the back of the other vehicle.
Both cars were pushed into the grassy median.
A 22-year-old woman, who is believed to be the driver of the first vehicle, died at the scene. The pickup driver was transported to University Hospital. That driver's condition was not immediately known.
I-35 remained shut down while emergency crews responded with traffic directed onto the access roads.
