SAN ANTONIO — An eight-acre, $28.5 million campus coming to Boerne will be Archdiocese of San Antonio's first new school in more than 30 years, according to a press release.
Construction on St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School will break ground on Sept. 13, with Gov. Greg Abbott expected to attend, the release says. St. Peter the Apostle will initially consist of a facility servicing pre-K through sixth grade before later taking on middle and high schools for a full-fledged K-12 campus.
The last school within the archdiocese to be built from the ground up is St. Matthew, which first welcomed students in August 1993. Two other schools, Our Lady of Grace in Pleasanton and St. John Paul II in New Braunfels, have since opened "in existing buildings on a smaller scale."
The two-story school is expected to boast a capacity of 600 students in order to service the "fast-growing community in Kendall and the surrounding counties." Renderings provided by San Antonio-based LPA Design Studios show it will share the grounds with St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, near South Main and West Highlands in Boerne, and consist of 22 classrooms, a library, science lab, administrative offices, and rooms to teach art and music.
"This is an amazing opportunity for us to offer an excellent Christian education founded on gospel truth and based on rigorous academics, service, leadership and self-discipline," Pastor Norman Ermis, of the church, said in the release.
Development filings submitted to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation show the school is expected to be completed by late September 2025.
