Judson ISD teacher accused of coming to school drunk

A Judson ISD teacher, accused of coming to school drunk, is now on administrative leave.

CONVERSE, TX-- A Judson ISD teacher, accused of coming to school drunk, is now on administrative leave.

The 5th grade teacher was removed from class Monday at Miller's Point Elementary School.

One parent says she couldn't believe it when she got the letter with the news.

"I was very shocked," Amy Ortiz said.

Ortiz's son and other 5th graders came home Monday with a story she almost didn't believe.

"They told me that one of their teachers came to school and she was drinking. Evidently a cop went into her classroom, took a cup out of her desk and then she never came back. She never returned to class," Ortiz said.

The 5th grade math teacher was removed after the principal reported concerns with her physical state.

"That particular day this individual did not come to school physically able to execute their job at the level that's expected," Judson ISD public information officer Steve Linscomb said.

Although the district would not confirm that the teacher is being investigated for being drunk, they did tell KENS 5 that a preliminary investigation led to her removal from the class.

"At this point the investigation is still active, but this employee was put on administrative leave last Monday," Linscomb said.

Ortiz is upset that parents were not notified until Wednesday.

"They could have said something sooner, but yet they took three days," Ortiz said. "I'm not very happy with it. And ya know, I just encourage parents to check into different things that are going on."

Judson ISD says that if the investigation finds that the teacher was drunk or on drugs, that would be grounds for dismissal.
