SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio community will have a chance to voice their opinion as SAISD board members discuss the possible sale of a portion of land for the Missions' proposed new stadium.
The meeting is set for Monday, and the district has outlined various options and potential benefits for making this deal.
SAISD board members say the land transfer can help the district grow in size and help families at different campuses.
The land in question is on Camaron Street, and the district uses it for parking at Central Office and the Fox Tech campus.
If sold, the district has five terms they want met. A big one is to guarantee affordable housing for families. This can protect families who may lose their urban housing because of the stadium.
Another term is for the superintendent to sit on the Houston Street Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone.
Other terms are to receive $400,000 a year, to secure funds to build a new facility for the Advanced Learning Academy and to obtain essential parking with safety measures for the Fox Tech campus.
If the district doesn’t pursue these terms for the land transfer, they have two other options: they can go through a bid process to sell the property or they can make the property eminent domain to expand the Advanced Learning Academy.
