Firefighters spend seven hours battling flames in DeWitt County

DEWITT COUNTY, Texas — A cloud of dark, black smoke appeared over the 7800 block of FM 108 in DeWitt County Monday afternoon. 

Volunteer firefighters from four departments responded to a fire at the saltwater disposal site around 3:35pm yesterday. According to the Office of Emergency Management in DeWitt County, crews from Westhoff VFD, Yorktown VFD, Nixon VFD, and Smiley VFD spent more than seven hours trying to extinguish the flames. 

One non-life-threatening injury was reported to an employee of the location.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but will be investigated by the Texas Railroad Commission.
