VAL VERDE COUNTY, Texas — The first coronavirus case in Val Verde County is a relative of an airman stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas who has been isolated, according to military officials.

In a video post on Laughlin AFB's Facebook page, officials said the family has been monitored since their return, having flown through the San Antonio International Airport.

"I want to assure you that it is contained," Laughlin officials said. "We knew about this family. When they came back, we immediately put them into quarantine."

Meanwhile, officials at the base announced they've signed a public health emergency declaration in the wake of this development. They also emphasized the importance of practicing social distancing while limiting large social gatherings in the community.

Back in Bexar County, local officials have not yet disclosed if or when there was possible exposure at the airport.
