SAN ANTONIO — There are now three cases of coronavirus in San Antonio related to travel, city health officials said, after the confirmation of another individual with the virus on Sunday.
Metro Health says the individual had recently been to Spain, which recently became the second European nation to impose a country-wide lockdown due to rapid coronavirus spread.
Officials added the newly-tested patient has already been isolated for treatment, with efforts being taken to seek out who they may have been in contact with.
Mayor Ron Nirenberg said in the statement that as more San Antonio residents are tested, officials will receive "clearer and more rapid assessment of any potential occurrence of travel-related infections."
Meanwhile, local businesses still want your support. Local eatery Toro Kitchen + Bar posted a positive sign on its doors downtown, one that read: "Viruses are contagious. So is panic, fear, hysteria. Support love kindness. Lets Choose Wisely San Antonio."
Manager Ian Sam said it was the owner's idea to create something positive.
"We are struggling a little bit with everything happening with COVID-19. We decided to, at least, in all these circumstances, make something positive—positive for San Antonio," he said.
Sam said while business has slowed down, they're hoping for the best. On Sunday, several states announced they will be requiring restaurants bars and clubs to shut down, close early or reduce occupancy in order to mitigate the spread of coronavirus.
It is pretty crazy," he said. "But, not here. We are trying to not panic because I think the people right now are going crazy in some ways. I understand the feeling they have about it, but at some point we need to continue with the our lives, and still support the business here in San Antonio."
