Healthy SA: Using lasers as a way to lose weight

The treatment is temporary, but guarantees you will lose inches.

SAN ANTONIO — Ozempic and other weight loss injections have been dominating the market among those who want to lose weight, but they aren't free from potentially serious side effects. But, there is an interesting alternative that guarantees losing at least 3 and 1/2 inches.

It's called the Zerona Z6 Laser and it's more of a temporary solution to losing weight, to be used in combination with diet and exercise.

"I only did seven sessions, and I couldn't do any more because I was losing inches rapidly," said Laurie Comshiou who was one of the first in her office to try the Zerona.

She said it almost worked too well!

"So I lost 9.25 inches in seven sessions. Hence, that's why we went from our, regular clothing wear in our office to scrubs, because I lost so many inches so fast," Comshiou said.

Dr. Trip Puhl from the Chiropractic Centers Of Texas told KENS 5, "What it's doing is it's actually taking a fat cell and creating what's called a transitory pore, where the contents of the fat cell will actually leak out and be eliminated through our lymphatic system."

In layman's terms the lasers shrink fat cells, which converts to weight loss, as well as inches.

"People getting ready for spring break or vacation or a wedding or different things like that. It's a great way to kind of lose 3 or 4in real quick around the hips, waist, and thighs," Dr. Puhl added.

Dr. Puhl said this is a non-invasive treatment. There are zero adverse side effects. You'll see results in as few as six, 40 minute sessions. And it is pain-free! And because the lasers are constantly in motion, Dr. Puhl said, "That gives us a broader area without having to move the laser around."

The treatment is not covered by insurance, with an average price for a package costing about $2,500 depending on what doctor you use.
