Two mosquitos test positive for West Nile virus in Bexar County

The first mosquito was found near Glen Fair and the second mosquito was found in the Kriewald area. The county is now increasing vector control efforts.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Bexar County has announced that they will be increasing their mosquito abatement efforts after two mosquitos tested positive for the West Nile virus.

The first mosquito was found in the eastern part of unincorporated County near Glen Fair in a drainage channel. The second mosquito was found in the west part of unincorporated County inside Loop 1604 at US 90 in the Kriewald area.

Public Works is aggressively treating the areas with several mosquito abatement efforts. Crews will be fogging early in the morning when the mosquitos are most active. The county is also fogging County public rights of ways and in County parks. The fogging agent is environmentally safe.

The Bexar County Office of Emergency Management (BCOEM) have started an outreach effort for both areas of the county. They will be providing preventative information to residents, especially those with children in the household.
