No sweat! Cosmetic procedure promises to cure underarm sweat in an hour

If you're "sweating" what to get someone for Christmas, this could literally be the coolest gift out there.

If you're "sweating" what to get someone for Christmas, this could literally be the coolest gift out there.

It’s a “lunchtime” procedure that promises to not only wipe out arm pit sweat for good, it vows you'll never even have to buy a stick of deodorant again.

"It's for anyone who sweats," said Randy Rakes, with MiraDry.com. "We are in South Texas."

It's considered the cure for sweat. Tiny dots mark the spot where a patient is expected to be sweat free, clean and dry for the rest of their life.

Randy Rakes says it’s a one-time treatment.

"It's immediate and permanent," he added.

Sonterra Laser Med Spa now offers the treatment. After your underarm has been numbed, the handpiece is activated. A slight suction of the skin, and sweat glands are brought closer to the surface, where they are destroyed.

"The heat destroys them," Rakes said. "Once they are gone, they are gone permanently."

Rakes noted that the treatment is unlike BOTOX injections, which could require maintenance every six months to help fight excessive underarm sweat.

Rakes says that BOTOX doesn't last as long.

"We are permanently eliminating sweat glands under the arms," Rakes said.

Experts say that it not only eliminates the need for deodorant, they say it takes away odor and unwanted hair all in one treatment.

Rakes says that, in just one session, hair can be permanently removed. MiraDry was previously used on patients suffering from hyperhidrosis, which is excessive underarm sweating. Now, this non-invasive procedure is making its way to medical spas like Sonterra Laser Med Spa.

And for folks who also worry about antiperspirants, Rakes says that this treatment lets you skip the chemicals altogether.

"[The treatment is] for people who are afraid of risks of aluminum on a daily basis," he said.

Treatments run about $2,000.
