Another mosquito tests positive for West Nile virus, third found in Bexar County

Bexar County officials said they have already increased their efforts to decrease the spread.

SAN ANTONIO — Another mosquito tested positive for the West Nile virus in Bexar County, officials said.

According to a press release, the mosquito was found by Highway 90 and Cagnon Road near the southwest side of San Antonio.

Bexar County officials said they have already increased their efforts to decrease the spread.

Public Works crews have aggressively fogged and treated multiple areas in the county which officials say are environmentally safe.

The Bexar County Office of Emergency Management also visited over 800 homes in the area and distributed vital information about preventing the spread to residents and families.

All residents and families with small children are urged to protect themselves from mosquitos.

Helpful Tips:

  • Drain standing water to stop mosquitos from multiplying (including from garbage cans, house gutters, buckets, pool covers, coolers, toys, flowerpots or any other containers where water has collected.)
  • Discard old tires, drums, bottles, cans, and other items that aren't being used.
  • Maintain swimming pools.
  • Cover visible skin with clothing or insect repellant
