KINGSBURY, Texas — Christina Krueger said someone hit the community's cluster mailbox at the end of August. She and other neighbors had been asking her local post office to fix their mailboxes ever since but kept getting the same response.
"They keep telling us 'we put in a work order' but months and months have gone by," Krueger said. "The holidays are about to be here so it's going to be even more difficult."
Unfortunately, that "local" post office was also between 30 to 45 minutes away in Luling, Texas. Glenn Rivera told KENS 5 he also asked that post office for help multiple times but didn't get an answer.
"Every time I went there I asked 'when are we getting new mailboxes? Is there any update?'" Rivera said. "They give me the run around."
Both neighbors told KENS 5 the local post office suggested they contact their community developer but they didn't understand why. Finally, they called KENS 5.
"I just want someone to fix it," Krueger said. "I don't care who fixes it. I just would like mail."
KENS 5 spoke to the community last week and emailed the U.S. Postal Service that evening. USPS then immediately took action. Less than 24 hours later, the community had a brand new cluster mailbox installed on their road.
USPS said via email, “The Postal Service is proud of the important role it plays in the community and is committed to providing the best service possible to its customers. We are pleased to report that the Cluster Box Units (CBUs) located on Galle School Rd. have been replaced, and local postal officials are in the process of finalizing mailbox assignments. Normal mail delivery will resume on November 25. We appreciate our customers’ patience and apologize for any inconvenience they may have experienced.”
USPS also later clarified that customers would need to drive to their local post office one more time in order to pick up new keys for their mailbox.
The community is thankful their mailbox will work for the holidays after all. They're glad they called KENS 5.
"It's a lot better," Rivera said. "No one seemed to be doing anything about it until the news got involved, which I am grateful for."
