SAN ANTONIO -- A former Bexar County Sheriff's detention officer accused of sexually assaulting a teenager posed as the victim's guardian and family member at her school, according to his arrest report.
Matthew Adams, 24, was charged with aggravated sex assault of a child Monday.
He was fired from the sheriff's office hours after he was taken into custody.
A San Antonio Independent School District employee contacted authorities Monday after becoming suspicious that a student at Navarro Academy was in a sexual relationship with Adams, according to an SAPD incident report.
The 15-year-old victim told police she met Adams on-line and had been in a relationship with him the past two years.
An SAISD spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday afternoon Adams repeatedly showed up to the school's office in full BCSO uniform and had even put his name on several school-related forms for the teen.
SAPD's report indicates Adams provided the school with excuses for the teen's tardiness and absences and claimed at times to be both the teen's "cousin" and "guardian".
The teen's actual guardian had told school officials in the past Adams was a family member who was helping out, according to an SAISD spokeswoman.
Adams did not respond to a request for comment left at his home Tuesday afternoon. His uncle, Richard Zamora, told the I-Team the victim lied about her age.
"Its crazy. We've known this girl for awhile. She's always presented herself as 20 years old. That's all I ever knew," said Zamora.
"My brother called me and said that she's 15. I go 'no way, she don't look 15', and she didn't present herself as that," added Zamora.
Adams had worked as a Bexar County jailer since August. He is the 14th sheriff's deputy arrested this year.
