SAN ANTONIO - A Gilbert Elementary School student reportedly was a victim of a possible abduction attempt Monday, according to a letter sent home to parents.

The student was walking home along Mission Road when a man approached and offered to give them money to get into a blue SUV.

The letter describes a possible suspect in this case as an older white man with shoulder-length light brown hair. He was also reportedly wearing a straw-brimmed hat and driving a car that resembled a Dodge Durango.

The student ran home and told his parents, who then told school officials.

The Harlandale Independent School District said it takes potential threats to students' safety very seriously.

Harlandale ISD also advises students to be aware of their surroundings, especially when walking alone, and to walk with a buddy when possible.

If students are approached by strangers, the school district said they should avoid talking with strangers and immediately report the incident to an adult. Students are also advised to call 911.

A spokesperson for the school district also said a police report on this incident was filed, and Gilbert Elementary has additional security inside and outside of the school.
