SAN ANTONIO — An 11-year-old boy was accidentally run over and killed by a family member in his own driveway Saturday afternoon, police say.
San Antonio Police responded to the 5400 block of Sunlit Brook, near Wurzbach Road and Babcock Road, around 4:15 for reports of an accident.
When officers arrived at the home, they were told that the 11-year-old boy was standing on the driveway at his home when an older relative, also a juvenile, tried to drive another family member's Toyota Corolla that was parked in the driveway. The older juvenile relative did not have a driver's license, or any experience driving. He told police he thought he was putting the gear in reverse, but instead put it in drive, stepped on the accelerator and hit the boy.
A family member heard the crash, and tried to help the boy, then drove him to University Hospital, which was close by.
The 11-year-old boy died from his injuries. He has been identified as Obaidullah Sailani.
Family members at the residence were cooperative with police on the scene and during the investigation.
The investigation remains on-going.
