SAN ANTONIO — A 13-year-old boy was struck during a drive-by shooting while inside a living room on the northwest side Thursday morning, according to San Antonio Police.
The incident took place on North Calaveras near Woodlawn Lake around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
Officials say when they arrived on scene, they found the teen with a gunshot wound in the back.
The teen was in the front living room of the home when a car drove by and started shooting, according to police.
Officials say the car fired multiple shots at the house and the teen was struck once. Several bullet casings were found on the road.
Simon Gonzales, who lives in the neighborhood, heard what happened.
“I was in bed and I heard the shots, about six shots. Real loud, it was very close," Gonzales said. “I feel very sorry for him. He was very young.”
Authorities say the victim was conscious and speaking with first responders before being rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Nina Garza was asleep when the shooting happened down the street. She still has many questions about the early morning incident, such as who was the intended target and who pulled the trigger. But she's not surprised by such criminal activity taking place in the area.
“We hear it all the time. We hear shots fired. There’s nothing but seniors and we just keep to ourselves," Garza said.
Police did not release a description of the vehicle at this time.
