SAN ANTONIO — A 17-year-old was murdered just days before he was expected to become a father. An arrest affidavit also reveals brand new information in the murder investigation of Christian Jimenez-Santos.
17-year-old Juan Carlos Garcia was arrested Monday night. Police are still looking for Salvador Garcia-Godinez. The two suspects are cousins. According to an arrest warrant, after the murder, Garcia-Godinez reportedly told family he wanted to escape to Mexico.
Meanwhile, the victim's family is trying to hold strong. Jimenez-Santos' girlfriend, Leyda Perez, said it doesn't seem real that he is gone.
"I know he wants me to be strong for our son," she said. "So that is what I am going to do."
Perez will give birth to Javen Christian in two days. She will now raise him without a dad.
"Whatever his motive was, it wasn't worth it," she said. "It wasn't worth his life."
On December 5, police said Jimenez-Santos was arguing with Garcia and Garcia-Godinez over drugs and money. According to the warrant, Garcia-Godinez reportedly told his sister he was beating Jimenez-Santos with a bat.
Moments later Jimenez-Santos was shot in the head. He died several days later in the hospital.
"He didn't deserve this," Perez said. "He didn't have to do that to Christian. He didn't just hurt Christian, he hurt all of us."
According to the warrant, Garcia-Godinez said they were going to bury Jimenez-Santos in the backyard, but couldn't because witnesses saw the shooting. The warrant states that police found a freshly dug shallow grave in the backyard of a home on Vermont Street near Division Avenue.
The warrant also states Garcia-Godinez, a Mexican citizen living in the U.S, confessed to family he and his cousin committed the murder.
Police ask if you know of his whereabouts or anything about the case to contact the homicide unit Homicide Unit at 210.207.7635.
The Jimenez-Santos family is now raising money to pay medical bills, and give the young teen a proper burial.
"I know he is watching over us, and wants us to be strong," Perez said.
The family has also established a GoFundMe page for Jimenez-Santos.
