SAN ANTONIO — 38 parakeets were found dead inside a house fire on the east side of town Monday afternoon, according to police.
San Antonio firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Center Street near N New Braunfels Avenue and East Houston Street around 11 a.m. for reports of a house on fire.
When firefighters arrived at the home, they found 38 parakeets dead inside a cage in the home. No word on why the homeowner had so many birds.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, due to an electrical issues in the back of the home. Official say there was extensive damage to back of home and kitchen area. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
This investigation remains ongoing.
