$7M upgrades to the Clarity Child Guidance Center hopes to help serve hundreds of more children in need

When completed, a total of $16 million would have been invested to serve an additional 1000 kids a year.

SAN ANTONIO — The Clarity Child Guidance Center is investing millions of dollars to keep the most vulnerable population safe and get them the care they need.

The newest renovations will help serve 700 more children per year.

A pediatric psychiatric unit, courtyard, and therapy space comes with the price tag of $7 million. The nonprofit says mental health should not be a stigma especially when aiming treatment for children and teens.

“A big part of psychiatric treatment, is play and activity," Carol Carver chief operating officer said. “The materials that we use for the furniture are to reduce the risk to the patient.”

These facilities are an expansion – hoping to serve an additional 700 more children per year. President and CEO, Jessica Knudsen plans on following through on that proposal.

“Having a diagnosis for your child can be difficult and so a lot of families subconsciously, I don’t think they do it consciously don’t seek treatment because they’re trying to find any other box for those symptoms to fit in," Knudsen said.

An additional 9 million is still needed for two phases for the center. Knudsen says this is only the beginning when it comes to giving a safe space for children and teens in south Texas.

“We just treat kids, so we can really specialize and become the experts in that population,” she said.

When completed, a total of $16 million would have been invested to serve an additional 1000 kids a year.

“I think the more we talk about it and we do acknowledge that it touches every single person in every single family, then funding will follow,” Knudsen said.

Their crisis services clinic is located at 8535 Tom Slick.
