90 days of no arrests: Khadija Derry's family searching for answers after 22-year-old was shot and killed in Converse

The Texas Rangers, FBI, Secret Service and Converse Police are working the case but have not made any arrests.

CONVERSE, Texas — Monday marks 90 days since a Converse woman was murdered outside her family’s home. Police have yet to man any arrests in connection to the shooting.

Khadija Derry was just 22-years-old. Kuquanda Perkins is Derry’s mother. She said these past three months have been a nightmare.

“You would think at 90 days, it gets easier but for me, it has gotten worse,” Perkins said.

On December 6, Converse Police said Derry was sitting inside her car outside a home off Arundal Garden when a four-door vehicle drove up. Police said two people got out and fired around 20 rounds into Derry’s car, striking her about a dozen times.

“It’s hard because I return home on a daily basis to me what was a crime scene,” Perkins said.

The Texas Rangers, FBI, Secret Service and Converse Police are working the case. The family said they have had little updates here and there but are still left wondering why she was killed.

“We want to make sure these monsters never see the day in light,” Kevin Shandy, Derry’s Uncle, said.

Derry was a nursing student and a former college athlete. Her uncle said she was full of life and had a way of bringing people together.

“Even when times when I’ve seen her mad, it still ended with a little laugh and that’s the type of person she was,’ Shandy said.

The family is urging anyone who knows something about the case, to come forward.

“We’re watching over our shoulders, looking over our backs, living paranoid day to day because we don’t have sufficient facts that tells us that we’re safe,” Perkins said.

Converse Police released this statement about the case Tuesday:

"There has been significant progress in this investigation. We have and will continue to dedicate all resources necessary, to include working with our law enforcement partners, state and federal."
