911 alert from victim's phone leads police to dead body

Officials believe that the victim's phone suffered an impact and sent the emergency alert to authorities.

SAN ANTONIO — A mysterious call to 911 led police to a homicide victim on the west side of San Antonio early Wednesday morning.

San Antonio Police responded to the State Highway 151 Eastbound access road near S Callaghan Road around 1:25 a.m. after receiving an alert from a cellphone.

When officers arrived at the location they found the man, who police estimate to be in his mid 30s to early 40s, on the side of the access road of 151 near the intersection of Callaghan Road. The victim had two gunshot wounds to his back and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police sergeant at the scene stated it's possible that the victim was dumped there, but it's unknown if that was the case.

Police did not find any shell casings at the location.

SAPD said Emergency Services were initially notified of an emergency through the victim's cellphone. The sergeant believes the phone suffered an impact, sending an emergency alert to authorities.

There are no known witnesses or suspects at this time. The homicide remains under investigation.

This is a developing story.
