After nearly 12 hours, AT&T network outage has been restored

What caused the outage remains unclear - the Federal Communications Commission is looking into investigating the cause.

SAN ANTONIO — The network outage began this morning around 2:30 CT. It's impact was felt through several major cities across the nation. San Antonio was one of the cities with the highest outages reported. Other cities were Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Louisville and Miami.

AT&T released a statement just after 2pm saying the network outage has been restored.

In the statement, AT&T apologized saying in part. ‘Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future.’

Now as for what caused the outage - that remains unclear. A U.S. cyber official told CNN that there’s been no indication that the outage was caused by malicious cyber activity and now we’re also hearing from the Federal Communications Commission.

On Twitter they said in part, 'Our Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau is actively investigating. We are in touch with AT&T and public safety authorities, including FirstNet, as well as other providers.”

It is unclear how long that investigation into the cause of the outage will take. What was clear for many is this outage was a major inconvenience for thousands around the city and there were concerns about the ability to call 911. We checked in with local law enforcement agencies in Lytle, Atascosa County and San Antonio Police who were all able to continue their operations despite it all.
