SAN ANTONIO — Another San Antonio institution is shutting their doors after 54 years. The Jim's Restaurant location on San Pedro Avenue at West Hildebrand announced their closure on social media Friday.
"We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the team members, patrons, and community of the San Pedro and Hildebrand area," said the Facebook post. "Over the past 54 years, it has been an immense honor to collaborate with, serve, and be a part of your lives. We've had the privilege of connecting with families, witnessing first experiences, celebrating milestones, and sharing sorrows across generations."
Jim's Restaurants say that the current economy and rising costs are among the reasons for the closure.
"After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to cease operations of Jim's Restaurant at San Pedro and Hildebrand," said Jim's Restaurant. " This decision is not taken lightly, but it is necessary for us to enhance our company's ability to serve our patrons and the communities who’ve made us their own throughout the city."
If you want to go to that location one last time before they close, you'd better hurry. They will serve their last customers at Jim's #4 on Tuesday, June 25.
Division Manager Gary Johnson says, "We're the community's kitchen table," he said. “We are part of the community and we are here to be whatever they need us to be.”
For 54 years – its been a hub for hungry diners – who are now harvesting one last bit of history, like Dennis Burrell.
“I spent a long time here,” he said. "When I was 17, and I’m 71 now.”
His favorite item on the menu is the 'Original Jim Burger.'
"I don’t know how many I’ve had here," Burrell said. "They had it ready when they’d see me on the sidewalk, cause that’s all I’d ever buy in here.”
Frontier Enterprises says they will offer all of the employees from that location a job at one of their other locations.
"We hope you will get a chance to seek out your favorite members of the Jim's @ Hildebrand & San Pedro team at their new locations," said Jim's Restaurant. " You can be assured that the warmth and sense of community that have made this location special will be carried forth by the Hildebrand & San Pedro team to their new homes."
