SAN ANTONIO — One person is recovering in the hospital after an early morning fire just north of downtown.
San Antonio Firefighters were called to West Woodlawn Avenue and Howard Street around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday for reports of a fire. When uits arrived they saw flames showing from the first floor apartment.
Crews worked quickly to extinguish the flames on the fire and got it under control within minutes. One resident was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Residents were evacuated while crews worked the scene but were later allowed to return to their units.
The cause of the fire is unknown. The battalion chief says some of the residents reported a possible explosion before the fire. However, the chief could not confirm that.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
