Man dies after ATV crash in eastern Arizona

The man crashed the ATV into a 10-foot hole near Concho, according to the Greer Fire District.

CONCHO, Ariz. — A man has died after an an ATV crash in eastern Arizona on Thursday night, according to the Greer Fire District. 

In a post on Facebook, Greer Fire said they were called on Friday to help St. John's Fire/EMS and Concho Fire hoist the victim and his ATV out of a sinkhole that was 10 feet deep.  

They found the scene just north of Concho, which is about 15 miles west of St. Johns and 33 miles north of Greer.   

Officials were able to get the man out of the hole, but said he died from his injuries. 

Greer Fire said Round Valley Fire Medical, SRP technical rescue crews and crews from the Apache County incident management team also assisted in the rescue attempt.

Greer Fire advised ATV riders to be cautious in that area as they noticed sink holes and tunnels in the area with some holes being up to 40 feet deep.  

No first responders were injured in the rescue attempt.
