ARLINGTON, Texas — Liyah-Grace Holsey, a 10-year-old girl, was hit and killed by two vehicles while attempting to cross a busy intersection in Arlington shortly after school dismissal on Dec. 14, officials said.
Now, her family is preparing for their first Christmas without her.
"I thought it was very unfair…because she’s only 10," Liyah-Grace's grandmother, Sherre Barnes told WFAA.
The two lived together in a home in Arlington, where Gracie’s backpack and Christmas stocking sit still and untouched.
"She was always wanting to kiss me, and I miss it, I miss it," her grandma cried.
Liyah-Grace, who also went by Gracie, was a lover, Barnes said. And a hugger and a kisser. She didn't have a single selfish bone in her little body.
"Even when people were bothering her, or bullying her, she protected them," said Barnes.
Barnes said Gracie gave her toys and candy to her classmates who she wanted to make happy.
"She gave everything away she had. That’s why we’re buying gift bags to give to her friends at school because she gave everything away," Barnes said. "She was a giver."
Gracie also loved to sing, her grandmother said. She never missed a choir practice, and she dreamed of becoming a singer on a stage when she grew up.
"Everybody Gracie touched she left an impression on them, and it was of graceful love," said her grandmother.
The Arlington Police Department is investigating the crash. Both drivers who hit Gracie, according to officers, had a green light. So far, no criminal charges have been filed.
