SAN ANTONIO — Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez announced an art contest will take place to replace a faded mural on the N. New Braunfels Bridge in District 2, according to a press release
The release says the current art that hangs over the bridge was done twenty-seven years ago to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and over time the artwork has faded. Many residents have also requested for an update, according to the release.
“Every year, we receive dozens of calls from residents asking how and when the murals that have welcomed hundreds of thousands of people into the Eastside can be restored or replaced,” remarked the Councilman.
Next week on Wednesday, March 13 the street will be temporarily closed to allow contractors to remove the mural and reopened by the afternoon.
The Councilman says the public should stay tuned for details about the art contest.
