COMAL COUNTY -- Officials from New Braunfels Utilities said the area is on the brink of reaching stage 3 water restrictions for only the second time in history.
The aquifer level reached 640.7 feet Thursday, less than a foot from the level that would trigger stage 3.
Residents would only be allowed to water their yards once every other week.
A spokeswoman for NBU said the utility has seen an increase in water usage for landscaping despite the area being in stage 2 water restrictions.
New Braunfels reached stage 3 on August 10, 2012 and stayed there for several weeks.
I was expecting not to see any ground right here, said Vanessa Fitts, who is visiting the Guadalupe River from the Galveston area.
Its still really pretty, but its pretty low.
More people on the river Thursday were sitting on chairs in the water than actually trying to float down it in inner tubes.
At Canyon Lake the water level is down ten feet, as boaters and jet skiers are forced to dodge partially submerged trees.
