Back in jail: Repeat offender accused of two violent attacks on the same day

Police arrested Andrew Valadez in connection to a shooting and an armed robbery, both unrelated incidents happened on Sept. 17

SAN ANTONIO — SAN ANTONIO, TX—A man accused of committing two violent crimes on the same day last year is now behind bars.

Andrew Valadez, 27, was arrested last week after San Antonio Police said he shot and then pistol-whipped a man in the early morning hours of September 17, 2023.

According to an arrest warrant, officers were dispatched to the 100 blk of Henry St. around 4:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

When officers got to the scene, they learned Valadez and a 47-year-old man were arguing when the verbal exchange suddenly turned into a physical fight, according to the arrest warrant.

Investigators said that’s when Valadez pulled out a gun and started pistol-whipping the man.

Bystanders stepped in and were able to pull Valadez off the man, stopping the attack.

As one of those bystanders was walking back to vehicle, police said Valadez shot the 35-year-man, hitting him in the chest.

The second victim fell to the ground where Valadez continued the attack, and “began to strike him with the handgun on his head,” according to police documents.

Investigators said the shooting victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Valadez then ran off while bystanders attended to the victim and called police.

The 35-year-old man’s condition is unknown at this time.

Valadez is also facing another charge for an armed robbery that happened the same day.

According to an arrest warrant, the incident started when Valadez and the 44-year-old victim were in the parking lot of the Home Plate Sports Bar off the 2500 blk. of Bandera Rd.

Police said Valadez got out of his car with a gun and started chasing the victim through parking lots.

Valadez and another unknown suspect caught up to the victim nearby off the 5100 blk. of Callaghan, and pistol-whipped the man, demanding his property, according to police documents.

Investigators said they were able to identify Valadez through video surveillance.

Valadez previously served prison time for a Family Assault charge.

According to online court records, Valadez was released from prison seven months prior to the violent attacks on September 17.
