Ballet San Antonio debuts The Nutcracker at the Tobin Center

Ballet San Antonio's version of the timeless classic includes a cast of 25 professional ballet dancers, along with 100 local children.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio's professional ballet company is preparing to debut the holiday classic, The Nutcracker, at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

with audiences so families with Clara, the Nutcracker, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and all the rest, Choreographers Haley Henderson Smith and Easton Smith say it can be a challenge to bring something fresh to the story.

“Every year, we’re challenged with both appealing to a wide audience and bringing something new to the table,” said Smith, “We hope audiences enjoy the decisions we’ve made to make this year’s performance of The Nutcracker a special one.” 

Live music will be also be performed by Classical Music Institute’s Orchestra. The production also includes local community heroes in the role of Mother Ginger.

This year includes eight performances on:

Friday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, December 2 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, December 3 at 2 p.m.

Friday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, December 9 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, December 10 at 2 p.m.

 The company will also put on The Nutcracker Sweets and Treats Party, a special event that includes meeting Ballet San Antonio dancers, seeing performance excerpts and enjoying sweet treats.

Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased online at balletsanantonio.org, by phone at (210) 223-8624 or in person at the Tobin Center Box Office (100 Auditorium Circle). Box Office hours are Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
