SAN ANTONIO — Thursday is the last day to ship a package using Priority Mail and have it delivered by Christmas.
The US Postal Service is working around the clock to make sure gifts are under the tree. However, criminals are trying that much harder to steal your holiday joy.
We all know that package theft is a big issue. But this year, the Better Business Bureau says criminals are getting even bolder. They are entering cyberspace, because that’s where a lot of people are doing their shopping, then anxiously tracking their order for its arrival.
The BBB says cyber criminals are luring people through text messages about a delayed shipment or a package that couldn’t be delivered.
Consumer experts says often times these texts wil include a link to gain personal information that could lead to identification theft.
Whatever you do, don’t interact with these messages if you suspect something is wrong.
The BBB says conduct some research to verify the sender.
"Many times we tell people to consider a few things, like creating free accounts with the shippers," said an expert. "So you can create accounts and tailor delivery preferences to help you out. If you're not shipping to your home, you can ship to a neighbor, to your work, to the store itself, some options beforehand. And when you get caught, if you're if you're a victim of some kind of porch pirates or theft or something like this, report it definitely report it to the carrier that they're in posturing."
Also report it the BBB.
Thursday is the deadline to get your package out using Priority Mail by the USPS.
FedEx is offering same day delivery if you get your package out by. December 22.
