SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff's Office says a man is behind bars after deputies say they uncovered a disturbing pattern of sexual assault.
Investigators say James Andrew Peters II would frequent a 54th Street Bar and Grill location with different women, all under the guise of conducting business meetings.
Deputies say that during the meetings, he would order them alcoholic drinks and only consume water himself.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says it's imperative to take extra precaution when meeting someone for the first time in person.
“On social media, anybody can become anybody," he said. "It’s imperative that we get to know somebody in a controlled setting. I don’t know that meeting them in a bar or something along those lines is the best bet.”
Restaurant staff members told investigators Peters was known to have frequented the restaurant with different women. After dinner, deputies say the two visited a house in the dominion district and afterward they went to the victim’s apartment..
It was there, that deputies say Peters forced himself onto the victim after she refused his advances.
“If you’ve got to put yourself in that situation where you’re meeting with someone in bar or a social setting like that, maybe it’s best to bring somebody along with you," Salazar said. "A friend, a coworker, to keep an eye on things.”
Following that case – investigators became aware of a woman who they say was dating Peters. The two reportedly got into an argument that turned physical.
James Andrew Peters II is facing charges of sexual assault and assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
Investigators believe there could be more victims.
