BCSO makes arrest in fatal hit and run on far west side of San Antonio

The sheriff's office says the victim pushed his young son out of the way just before he was struck by a driver in a dark pickup truck.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man who allegedly hit and killed a man back in early June on the far west side of town.

Raul Pena was walking with his young son on June 3 when he was hit by a driver in a dark pickup truck on Dove Canyon access road at Loop 1604. Officials say Pena moved his son out of the way, or he would have been hit by the truck.

Deputies believe it was a dark Toyota Tacoma that struck the dad.

At the time of the accident BCSO said the truck would have specific damage markers indicating it was involved in the fatal hit and run crash. They believed the hood would have wrinkle damage, and the plastic on the passenger side of the grill would be damaged or missing. Also the letters "t" and "o" from "Toyota" on the grill may be missing, leaving the letters "y-o-t-a."

Deputies said security camera video showed the vehicle turning onto Marbach Road and then Pue Road.

Jonathan Acosta was arrested on June 20 and charged with Collision Involving Death, a second degree felony.
