SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new portal through a QR code where people can submit tips related to a deadly shooting over the weekend.
This is the first time the sheriff’s office is using this type of technology.
Deputies said on early Sunday morning, 17-year-old Landyn Reyes was shot and killed off the 3900 block of Rock Mill Dam.
Investigators said there was a massive house party with more than 100 people inside a brand-new home that was vacant.
Sheriff Salazar said Wednesday, his detectives have received a few tips but are hoping the new QR code will result in more.
“Certainly, for various reasons want to get these people behind bars sooner rather than later,” Salazar said.
The QR code takes you to a website where you can enter your phone number or email and will be sent a link to submit photos or videos and as much information as you would like.
“The more they can get us the better,” Salazar said. “I mean obviously we would like to contact that person.”
Unlike Crime Stoppers, who is involved in this case, submitting a tip does not mean you will be eligible for a reward.
However, the sheriff said he hopes people attending the party that night do the right thing.
“There may be people, young people that were there and maybe the guilt was too much for them,” Salazar said.
The sheriff said this new portal was created by the company they use for their body cameras. He said he expects other agencies to take advantage of it.
